I was pretty sure I needed to just go with a plain hole, the standard toilet seat, or the thick insulating foam in my newly constructed outhouse. It felt like loo blasphemy. Then I started searching... These seats are a great middle ground: aesthetically pleasing, nice colors, will the bumcheekies warm in the winter, won't toast them in the summer (this is Texas, y'all). I was raised by Finns up north and lived in Ukraine for 15 months, so they have a little more class than a hard hole, while still maintaining the outdoor outhouse feel. Just two comments: 1) I wasn't quite sure if the enclosed pieces were to install it for it's original purpose or in an outhouse (lack of instructions), so right now they are just sitting on top of the surface; and 2) when my husband tipped up the outhouse in order to allow me to grab a couple of drill bits that fell between the cracks of the entry, a couple of decorations fell and damaged the seats. It's not the seats' fault they lack moxie, of course, but it showed me that they are not as sturdy as they look--it is still just foam insulation. It would be nice if there was a thin protective layer to bind the surface better ["Great idea, buyer! We'll get right on that, call it our Moxie model, and send you the prototype!"]. If you'll be traveling with or moving them around, protect them from sharpish or falling objects. If anyone has suggestions on how to patch up little dents in the seat safely, feel free to email me at [****]. I would hate to have to buy a brand new set after a couple of weeks and one use on only one seat (thanks to my son for being that first brave little pioneer on the homestead--it was out of necessity, he rated it a 7, and remembered the ash!). Again, overall, happy and would (and may need to) purchase again.
Your review seriously made our day 😅 From “bumcheekies” in Texas to Finnish class in the outhouse! Big respect to your son too for being the first brave pioneer!
You’re totally right about the EPS, it does the job but isn’t built to battle falling decorations or outhouse gymnastics.
And no worries about the dents, we’ll send you a brand-new seat free of charge so you’re all set without having to play patchwork.
Thanks again for such an awesome and fun review, this is exactly the kind of feedback that keeps us smiling and improving.
Easy to install and works great for keeping the buns warm on a cold day/night. We are situated close to the Boundary Waters so it gets quite cold up here in the winter. Kudos to the customer service department for keeping me informed of my orders. 👍 Thank you!
